Bac Lieu accelerates efforts to eliminate substandard housing
The province is engaging local businesses and organisations in the elimination of substandard housing, ensuring better life quality for low-income families.

Bac Lieu (VNA)🌳 – Bac Lieu is stepping up efforts to eliminate temporary and dilapidated housing, ensuring safe and stable living conditions for low-income families.
Under the Prime Minister’s directive on speeding up the eradication of substandard housing nationwide, the Mekong Delta province aims to complete Phase 2 of the initiative by April 30.
Despite the local poverty rate falling below 1%, many households still struggle with inadequate housing. Hundreds of new homes are being built, providing families with improved living conditions.
For years, Ly Hoang Em’s family in Phuoc Long district lived in a deteriorating house while being unable to afford repairs. Thanks to the programme, they received 60 million VND in support from the local administration, with additional contributions from relatives, allowing them to build a sturdy home that shields them from the elements.
In the same district, nearly 90 households qualify for assistance in Phase 2, with 80 houses under construction and 53 of them completed. Phuoc Long looks to complete the work by March 31, said Secretary of the district Party Committee Nguyen Chi Thien.
Meanwhile, Hong Dan district has started building 43 of its planned 91 homes, while Dong Hai district, which faces the highest demand in Phase 2, is constructing 521 houses, including 376 for low-income families and 145 for policy beneficiaries and revolution contributors.
Local authorities are mobilising resources and community support to accelerate construction, ensuring homes meet the criteria: durable foundations, structures, and roofs, according to Secretary of the Dong Hai district Party Committee Ngo Cong Hau.
Tran Van Ut, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Bac Lieu, noted the province is actively rallying businesses and organisations to fund the programme. With nearly 1,000 homes planned in Phase 2, it is committed to completing the work as a meaningful contribution to the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification (April 30, 1975–2025)./.

Bac Lieu has set ambitious housing goals, planning to construct and renovate 2,883 houses for revolution contributors, 1,760 for poor and near-poor households, and 176 for ethnic minority families. The province estimates nearly 263 billion VND will be needed to achieve these targets.
