PhnomPenh (VNA) – The judge of a Phnom Penh court decided to remand Presidentof the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) Kem Sokha in custody forlegal procedures with the charge of “colluding with foreigners” under Article443 of the country's Criminal Code.

The decision was made following the judge’s interrogation with Kem Sokha,Cambodia’s Fresh News quoted the court's spokesman Ly Sophana as saying.

Previously on September 3, Kem Sokha was arrested after Cambodia’s police founda video broadcast by Australia-based Cambodian Broadcasting Network and otherevidence showing Kem Sokha and his accomplices secretly conspired withforeigners to overthrow the Cambodian government.

TheCambodian Government described the above act as treason and espionage.

Kem Sokha was elected as CNRP President in March 2017 to replace Sam Rainsy,who stepped down in the previous month.-VNA
