Hanoi (VNA) - Cambodia exported almost 133,000 tonnes of riceto China in the first eight months of 2019, a year-on-year rise of 54 percent,official data showed.

China remained the biggest buyer of Cambodian rice in the January-Augustperiod, accounting for 39 percent of the country's total rice export, accordingto the Cambodian Secretariat of One Window Service for Rice Export Formality.

Meanwhile, Cambodia shipped more than 120,000 tonnes of rice to the Europeanmarket, down 47 percent. The European Union (EU)'s market share for Cambodianrice had declined to 35 percent from 52 percent.

Cambodia’s rice exports to the European market have decreased after theEU earlier this year imposed duties for three years on rice imports from Cambodiain a bid to curb a surge in rice imports from the country and to protectEuropean producers.

Cambodiaexported over 342,000 tonnes of rice to 51 countries and territories in thefirst eight months of 2019, up only 0.1 percent over the same period lastyear.-VNA
