Cambodia Supreme Court to hear opposition party dissolution on Nov. 16

The Cambodia Supreme Court will hold a hearing on the dissolution of the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) on November 16.

Phnom Penh (VNA) - The Cambodia Supreme Court willhold a hearing on the dissolution of the opposition Cambodia National RescueParty (CNRP) on November 16.

According to a document signed on October 27, Supreme CourtPresident Dith Monty invited CNRP leader Kem Sokha and lawyers representing theMinistry of Interior to attend the hearing.

According to the subpoena inked by the court on October 9, KemSokha has 20 days to prepare and send relevant documents to the court. However,the CNRP and its leader haven’t filed any requested documents yet.

Kem Sokha was arrested on September 3 on charge of treason.

On October 6, the Ministry of Interior lodged a petition to theSupreme Court, requesting the dissolution of the CNRP, following complaints ofthe Cambodian Youth Party on October 4, and the Funcinpec Party on October 5that accused the CNRP leader of committing treason.-VNA
