Phnom Penh (VNA)ꦓ – The Cambodian Government is determined to prevent illegal actions which affect the nation’s power, honour and security, said Secretary of State and Spokesman for the Council of Ministers Phay Siphan on August 8.

He made the statement in response to the opposing Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP)’s announcement on the same day, stating that the party would start the “Black Monday” campaign.
According to CNRP spokesman Eng Chhay Eang, the party’s members will wear black clothing to work every Monday from August 8 to demand the release of civil officials, officials from the National Election Committee of Cambodia, CNRP leader Sam Rainsy and other CNRP activists.
Phay Siphan said that the Government is not surprised by the CNRP’s announcement, adding that it shows the CNRP is behind the movement that has been ongoing for months. This is the first time the opposing party has publicly announced its support for the movement.-VNA
