Can Tho (VNA) - The authorities of the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on June 19 met with visiting Indian Consul General to Ho Chi Minh City Madan Mohan Sethi, discussing ways to forge bilateral links and cooperation in tourism, culture, and education.

Sethi said following the meeting, the Consulate General would collaborate with the city and relevant units to develop programmes and plans tailored to both sides in promoting and introducing Can Tho's tourism and culture to Indian people.

Regarding education and training, the Consul General proposed further cooperation with the city’s universities to offer short-term programmes for Indian students and vice versa. Currently, the Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy has a training programme for over 200 Indian students.

The diplomat also extended an invitation for Can Tho to send delegations to India to participate in cultural festivals or specific programmes serving the promotion of the city's culture and tourism.

Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Nguyen Thuc Hien said the authorities agreed with the Consulate General's proposal to establish an "Indian Corner" at a number of local universities to help enhance understanding among students about the people and land of India.

Based on India's strengths and Can Tho City's needs, he proposed focusing bilateral cooperation on high-tech agriculture, food processing industry, investment, tourism, healthcare, education and training, and IT.

✃ Hien noted that the city is looking forwards to the Consul General's support in connecting Indian importers with local exporters of rice, seafood, farm produce and processed agricultural products, while seeking coordination in organising exchange programmes for teachers, students, and pupils in the fields of IT, biotechnology, health, culture and arts./.
