COVID-19: Cambodia, Indonesia see record number of infections on June 30

The COVID-19 situation in Cambodia has worsened with record numbers of infections and deaths on June 30.
Phnom Penh (VNA) – The COVID-19 situation in Cambodiahas worsened with record numbers of infections and deaths on June 30.

Cambodia’s Minister of Health on the day confirmed 1,130 newcases in 24 hours, including 139 imported cases, raising the national count toover 50,000.

Meanwhile, the number of deaths was also high at 27, raisingthe death toll to 602 since the “February 20 community incident”. BeforeFebruary 20, the Southeast Asian nation had seen no COVID-19-related death.

In Phnom Penh, after the closure of Boeng Keng Kang market,Toul Tom Poung is on high risk as many traders have been tested positive for SARS-CoV-2.

As part of efforts to speed up COVID-19 vaccination,additional six Cambodian localities - Kampong Chhnang, Banteay Meanchey,Pursat, Kampong Cham, Tbong Khmum và Svay Rieng - have launched the scheme forgarment workers and people aging from 18.
           
The ministry’s spokesperson said that if nothing is changed,Cambodia will receive COVID-19 vaccine doses that are enough for 10million people.

The same day, the Indonesia’s Ministry of Health said thatthe country also saw a record number of 21,807 COVID-19 infections,raising the total cases to nearly 2.18 million. Meanwhile, the country saw 467deaths, raising the total fatalities to 58,491./.
