Dong Thap (VNA) –❀ In an effort to eliminate substandard housing, the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap has planned to build 2,000 new houses for disadvantaged households in 2025.

Vo Chi Huu, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dong Thap province, stated that embracing the spirit of mutual support, the committee has mobilised local authorities to strengthen social welfare efforts and support low-income residents. The Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee recently issued a directive outlining criteria for eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses.
The locality has 1,686 poor and near-poor households that need support for building and repairing houses. In 2025, Dong Thap aims to raise 100 billion VND (3.9 million USD) for the "For the poor" fund to support building houses. The provincial Department of Construction has introduced 19 standard house designs, with estimated construction costs capped at 100 million VND per unit. The designs are intended for rural areas and urban locations with limited land availability.
On March 25, the provincial Red Cross society built 15 houses for low-income and near-poor households in Tan Hong district. Dong Thap currently has 2,524 poor and near-poor households in need of housing support. The province’s programme to eliminate substandard houses aims to build 2,000 new homes by September 2025, toward completely eradicating temporary housing by 2030. So far this year, the locality has built 1,200 new houses for poor households./.
