Tokyo (VNA) – The Japanese government hopes for positive outcomesof the second summit between the US President Donald Trump and DPRK leader Kim Jong-unin Hanoi on February 27-28, Japan’s public broadcaster NHK reported on February27.
Japan hopes the summit will lead to the DPRK’s scrapping of its weapons of massdestruction in a complete, verifiable and irreversible manner, and thesettlement of the issue of abductions of Japanese nationals by Pyongyang.
Before the summit, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Foreign Minister TaroKono had phone calls with US President Donald Trump and US Secretary of StateMike Pompeo, respectively, asking them to handle these issues.
The Japanese Foreign Ministry also sent Kenji Kanasugi, Director-General of theAsian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, to Hanoi to gather information on thesummit.
