Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysia and Australia will share intelligenceon militants in Southeast Asia as the two allies brace for the possible returnof Islamic State (IS) militants from Iraq, said Malaysian Defence MinisterHishamummddin Hussein on March 14.

Speaking to the press after meeting Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, hesaid that Australia agreed to provide technical support and equipment to tacklethe increasing threat of IS in the region, including the Abu Sayyaf militantgroup who pledged allegiance to IS.

Hussein once warned that the campaign against IS in Mosul, Iraq would makehundreds of IS militants and supporters return home, particularly to Malaysia,Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand.

During 2013-2016, Malaysia arrested 250 people over suspected links to IS.-VNA
