Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesian Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian said Jakarta still holds the capital status despite the enactment of State Capital Law No. 3 of 2022, adding that the capital city will officially be relocated after the president issues a presidential decree.

The capital city remains in Jakarta, he said on November 18, adding that the IKN (Nusantara Capital City) Law mentioned that the state capital status will be transferred through the enactment of Presidential Decree.

Sharing a similar opinion, Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas affirmed that the prerequisite for a state capital is the presence of the offices of the three branches of government: the executive, legislative, and judiciary bodies. As long as the construction is unfinished, the capital city will stay in Jakarta, he said.

Earlier on November 12, the Indonesian parliament held a plenary session to discuss amendments to Law No. 2 of 2024 regarding the Jakarta Special Capital Region (DKJ). The new DKJ law, passed in March this year, has not yet come into effect but is already being proposed for revision./.
