
The government leader made therequest at a political-military conference for the entire army in Hanoi on June27, which reviewed the performance of military and national defence tasks inthe first six months of 2017 and lay out missions for the second half of theyear.
PM Phuc pointed out other short-term tasks forthe entire army such as improving the institution-building and forecasting work,bettering training quality, combat capacity and preparedness, and effectivelycarrying out the Politburo’s Resolution No. 06-NQ/TW on building and developingthe national defence industry until 2020 and beyond.
He also emphasised the need forthe army to pay more heed to mass mobilisation activities, defence diplomacyand international integration.
PM Phuc also affirmed that, inany circumstance, the Party, State and people always support the army andcreate the best possible conditions for the army to fulfil its tasks.
A report delivered at the conference showed that in the first half of 2017, the Central MilitaryCommission and the Defence Ministry instructed military agencies and units torealise Resolutions of the 12th National Party Congress and the 10th Congressof the Army Party Organisation on military tasks, national defence and Partybuilding in the army.
Apart from giving advices to the Party and State as well as local PartyCommittees and administrations on issues regarding military, national defenceand defence policy, the army has teamed up with the police and other forces to timelydeal with circumstances to firmly protect national independence, sovereignty andterritorial integrity as well as the nation’s land border, sea and airspacesecurity.
Regular army units have also closely coordinated with local armed forces in overcomingnatural disaster consequences, conducting search and rescue activities andclearing bombs and mines left from the war.
Efforts have also been made to preventdegradation in political ideology, morality and lifestyle as well as manifestationsof internal “self-evolution” and “self-transformation.”
In the next six months, the Military Party Commissionand the Defence Ministry will bring into full play the achievements whilepreventing all “peaceful evolution” schemes.
The focal tasks are to improve training, combat preparednessand discipline compliance, help people with poverty reduction andsocio-economic development, building new-style rural and civilised urban areas,dealing with consequences of wars, natural disasters and diseases and combatingcrimes and smuggling.
At the same time, the army will participate inthe UN peace-keeping operations and build up a regular, elite and modernrevolutionary army to firmly safeguard the nation in the new period.-VNA
