Pretoria (VNA) – Vietnamese embassies across Africa marked the 135th birth anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh (May 19, 1890–2025) with solemn ceremonies celebrating his enduring legacy.

In Mozambique, the Vietnamese Embassy held a commemorative event attended by Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin, embassy staff, representatives from Movitel – a subsidiary of the Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group, and members of the Vietnamese community.

Participants offered incense at the embassy headquarters and paid tribute to Ho Chi Minh – a genius leader of Vietnam, a national liberation hero, and a great man of culture.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Thin emphasised the enormous contributions and profound influence of Ho Chi Minh, whose ideology, ethics, and style form a priceless spiritual heritage of the Vietnamese people and also a strong source of inspiration for the oppressed peoples worldwide. To people in Africa, including Mozambique, the President was a symbol of the desire for independence, self-relience, and freedom.

Given this, in recognition of his legacy, Mozambique’s first President Samora Machel named a major avenue in Maputo capital “Ho Chi Minh” in 1977, shortly after the country gained independence.

The ambassador called on Vietnamese people in Mozambique to follow Ho Chi Minh’s example by fostering unity, preserving the national identity, and contributing to the development of both the community and Vietnam – Mozambique relations.

The ceremony featured the screening of historical footage of Ho Chi Minh’s life and a floral tribute at the memorial plaque on Ho Chi Minh Avenue.

On the same occasion, the embassy unveiled a photo exhibition highlighting Ho Chi Minh’s bonds with people around the globe and celebrations of Vietnam’s 50th national reunification anniversary.

In Angola, the Vietnamese Embassy there commemorated the late leader by laying flowers before the President’s statue at the embassy headquarters, screening documentaries, and reflecting on his revolutionary career.

Ambassador Duong Chinh Chuc called on embassy staff to follow Ho Chi Minh’s teachings while highlighting the significance of his leadership over Vietnam’s path to independence, freedom, and happiness.

The diplomat also cited a recent article by Party General Secretary To Lam, who praised Ho Chi Minh’s establishment of the Communist Party of Vietnam in 1930 and his strategic diplomatic vision.

General Secretary Lam’s article underscored Ho Chi Minh’s diplomatic principle of independence, self-reliance, and diversification and multilateralism of external relations, with the core being firmly maintaining national interests and promoting peace and friendship with other nations – a diplomatic vision that has helped Vietnam become a friend, trustworthy partner, and responsible member of the international community with a growing stature in the international arena.

꧒ His legacy, the writing noted, remains a source of support and inspiration for many African nations, including Angola, in their own struggles for independence./.
