Thailand plans to export over 4 million tonnes of fruits this year

Bangkok (VNA) – Thaila�🎐�nd’s Ministry of Commerce hastargeted a 10% increase in the country’s fresh and processed fruit exports to4.44 million tonnes this year.

Particularly, the country expects to increase durian export value to 100 billion baht (2 billion USD) in 2023. The Thai Government's acting spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri said the Ministryof Commerce, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, and agencies fromboth public and private sectors coordinated to propose a total of 22 measuresto realise the export targets. The measures are expected to solve the problems relating tofruit prices, and quantity shortages, as well as achieve the export targetscovering four aspects - production, domestic marketing, finding new markets inforeign countries and negotiating with trading partners to reduce barriers tofruit exports. To ensure the quality of durians, Anucha said farmers inthe eastern provinces of Thailand are advised to strictly follow the provincialharvest schedule which is designed to release the fruit to the market when theprice reaches its highest point. Durian growers are also asked to avoid premature harvesting toprevent oversupply./.
