Thua Thien-Hue (VNA) – As many as 229outstanding students in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue received Vallet scholarshipsduring a ceremony on October 29.
The total value of the scholarships is over 3.3 billion VND(143,930), with each valued from 11.5 - 30 million VND.
The ValletScholarship Fund was established in 2001 by Professor Odon Vallet fromFrance’s Sorbonne University, through the MeetingVietnam organisation. It has been the largest non-governmental scholarshipfund in Vietnam over the past two decades.
The professor uses the annual interest from his inheritance to fundscholarships for students posting outstanding academic results in France,Benin, and Vietnam.
To date, more than 40,000 outstanding Vietnamese students and pupils have beenpresented with the Vallet scholarships worth over 200 billion VND (8.72 millionUSD). In Thua Thien-Hue alone, over 4,500 scholarships have been presented tolocal students.
Meanwhile, 50 poor students with good academic performancesin the northern province of Hai Duong also received the “Sharing The Dream”scholarships, which is funded by Thailand’s SCG Group.
The total value of the scholarships is 260 million VND (11,340USD). Each university student received 6 million VND, while school students got 4million VND each.

Odon Vallet scholarships worth nearly 3 billion VND (129,100 USD) were awarded to 276 students in the central provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Binh and Quang Tri at ceremony held in Dong Hoi city, Quang Binh province, on August 28.
As many as 179 scholarships totally worth more than 2 billion VND (about 86,140 USD) have been presented to disadvantaged students in the Central Highlands and the south-central provinces of Ninh Thuan and Khanh Hoa.
The organisation Meeting Vietnam on September 25 presented Vallet scholarships to 146 pupils and 66 university students in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.
The Vallet Scholarship Fund and the Meeting Vietnam organisation presented Vallet scholarships to outstanding students from Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, and Gia Lai provinces at a ceremony in the south-central province of Binh Dinh on September 29.
