Vietnam, Poland agree to increase high-level delegation exchange

Hanoi (VNA) – President Tran Dai Quang and Polish President AndrzejDuda chaired a joint press conference following their talks in Hanoi onNovember 28, saying they agreed to increase the exchange of all-leveldelegations, especially high-level ones.

The two sides consented to regularly consult each other about regional and internationalmatters of shared concern.

At the same time, they will closely coordinate and support each other atregional and international forums, particularly at the UN and within thecooperation frameworks of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)-EUand the Asia-Europe Summit (ASEM).

President Quang used the occasion to thank Poland for supporting Vietnam’scandidacy for a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council for 2020-2021,and called on the country to push for the early signing and ratification of theEU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement.

The leaders lauded achievements in bilateral trade and investment cooperationas well as efforts made by the two countries in negotiating and signing afinancial agreement worth 250 million EUR, creating a basis for theimplementation of cooperation projects in Vietnam using official developmentassistance (ODA) provided by the Polish Government.

Discussing regional and international issues of shared concern, they stressedthe importance of maintaining security and peace, and promoting cooperation anddevelopment in the world.

They held that all disputes should be addressed by peaceful measures, includingthe full respect for legal and diplomatic processes, in line with internationallaw.

For his part, President Andrzej Duda thanked Vietnam for backing Poland’snon-permanent membership of the UN Security Council for 2018-2019.

The Polish President expressed his hope that documents signed during his visit,would create a foundation to step up collaboration between the two countriesacross fields.

The opening of the representative office of the Polish Investment and TradeAgency in Vietnam, slated for November 30, 2017, demonstrates Poland’sattention to developing economic and trade ties with the country, he said.

Two-way trade revenue reaches 2 billion USD, he said, expressing his beliefthat the figure will increase many times in the coming years on the basis ofoutcomes of his ongoing Vietnam visit as well as the upcoming visit to Polandby President Quang.

At the end of their talks, the two Presidents witnessed the signing of a numberof cooperation documents, including an agreement on financial cooperationbetween the Vietnamese and Polish Governments, another agreement between theVietnamese Ministry of Education and Training and Poland’s Ministry of Scienceand Higher Education, a letter of intent between Hanoi University and Poland’sMinistry of Science and Higher Education on establishing Polish languagecourses.

They also include memoranda of understanding between Vietnamese and Polishministries, and the Vietnam News Agency and the Polish Press Agency.
