Phnom Penh (VNA)🦂 – The Vietnamese and Cambodian judicial ministries signed a 2016 cooperation agreement following talks between their ministers in Phnom Penh on February 29.
Under the agreement, both sides will hold the first judicial conference among provinces sharing borderline with Vietnam and effectively realise an agreement on judicial assistance in civil matters signed on January 21, 2013.
They also aim to sign an agreement on judicial assistance in criminal matters and continue negotiating a convention on the extradition of sentenced persons.
Minister of Justice Ha Hung Cuong, who is on a visit to Cambodia from February 29 to March 2 at the invitation of the Cambodian Ministry of Justice, stressed at the talks that Vietnam wants to lift legal and judicial ties with Cambodia and its judicial sector to new heights, especially since the ASEAN Community was established on December 31.
He also shared Vietnam’s experience in judicial reform and goals for this year.
Cambodian Justice Minister Ang Vong Vathana assured the guest that his ministry treasures the sustainable and effective collaboration with its Vietnamese counterpart.
He also shared experience in fighting drug crimes, disseminating laws to the public and refining legal regulations to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership deal.
The two ministers said they hope for more active efforts to realise initiatives adopted at the ASEAN Law Ministers’ Meeting, while conducting joint research on issues of regional and global concern, thereby deepening the traditional friendship for mutual development.
On March 1, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Sar Kheng is due to host a warm reception for Minister Cuong.
The same day, the Vietnamese delegation will meet leaders of the Supreme Court and Prosecutor General’s Office of Cambodia.-VNA
The 8th ASEAN justice ministers’ meeting kicked off in Phnom Penh on Nov. 4 to debate and decide on a number of legal instruments for ASEAN joint implementation, towards the establishment of an ASEAN Community in 2015.
Vietnam always regards the RoK as an important and long-term strategic partner; and hopes that the two sides will work together to further deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in a more substantive, effective, and comprehensive manner in the coming time.
Within the framework of the Vietnam-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, people-to-people exchanges and local cooperation have been priorities.

While praising the efforts of ministries, sectors, and localities in tackling smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeiting, and intellectual property violations, PM Chinh acknowledged that in some places and at certain times, there has been lax enforcement and unclear jurisdiction, leading to increasingly complex developments in these issues.
At the working session, General Secretary Lam presented the Party Committee of the VFF and central mass organisations with the Politburo’s Decision No. 304-QD/TW, which outlines the new structure, functions and tasks of the VFF Central Committee, marking a significant step in improving its organisational effectiveness.
Describing the exhibition as a large-scaled, content-rich, and unprecedented event with high requirements and limited preparation time, PM Pham Minh Chinh urged all ministries, sectors, and localities to participate with the highest sense of responsibility, ensuring the exhibition is inclusive, objective, truthful, feasible, and impactful.
Vietnam’s attendance reaffirms its consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralisation and diversification, and comprehensive, intensive, extensive and effective international integration.
Cheng stressed that this is third time PM Chinh has attended the meeting and he is among the few senior government officials participating in this year's event, which is considered as a rare and commendable gesture.
The fact that the Vietnamese PM has been invited to attend and speak at this important event for three consecutive years reflects the WEF as well as the international business community's recognition and high regard for Vietnam's position, role, and contributions to global and regional economic growth.
This new era marks a crucial phase in which the country must strive with determination to fulfil its strategic objectives, achieving breakthrough development at new levels of sophistication, quality, and global standing, laying the foundation for further growth. Era after era forms a continuous history of development, ascending steadily from one level to the next.
The resolution on such mechanisms aims to serve as a legal basis for opportunely dealing with difficulties and hindrances caused by legal regulations in important, priority, and urgent areas that require immediate settlement so as to unlock resources, facilitate economic development, and turn legislation into a competitive edge.
PM Pham Minh Chinh instructed chairpersons of the People’s Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities to strictly follow the Ministry of Finance's guidelines on handling public finances and budgets, with a focus on preventing wastefulness, misconduct, or corruption.
Knapper reaffirmed the US's commitment to supporting a strong, independent, prosperous and resilient Vietnam, while respecting each other’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, independence and political systems.
Vietnam is deeply concerned about the escalating and complex conflict in the Middle East, which poses a serious threat to the lives and safety of civilians, as well as to regional and global peace and stability.
