Cambodian ruling party wins big success in communal election
The Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) won victory in the communal election on June 4, while the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) came second, according to preliminary results announced by Cambodia’s National Election Commission (NEC) on June 5.

Phnom Penh (VNA) –The Cambodian People’s Party (CPP)won victory in the communal election on June 4, while the opposition CambodiaNational Rescue Party (CNRP) came second, according to preliminary resultsannounced by Cambodia’s National Election Commission (NEC) on June 5.
Earlier on June 4 evening, the Fresh News website updatedthat the CPP won 1,163 leadership positions in communes and wards, while theCNRP gained triumph in 482 localities, and the Khmer National United Party onlywon one position.
Despite its big success, the CPP lost leading positionsin 450localities compared to the previous election in 2012, while the CNRP saw 12times higher in the number of leading positions than the last election.
In addition, the CPP also lost in some central and crowdedlocalities.
Through the Facebook, CPP President and Prime Minister HunSen and CNRP leader KemSokha thanked Cambodian voters for their engagement inthe election, which took place in safety and order.
According to the NEC, 89.52 percent of total 7.8 million eligiblevoters in Cambodia cast their ballots to elect members of councils in 1,646communes and wards across the country.The election saw the competition of 12parties.
Final results are expected to be announced on June 25.-VNA
