Mekong Delta students get German state’s scholarships
The Hessen State Ministry for Science and Art and the German World University Service (WUS) on May 24 presented scholarships to 21 students from universities and colleges in the Mekong Delta region.
CanTho (VNA) - The Hessen StateMinistry for Science and Art (HSMSA) and the German World University Service(WUS) on May 24 presented scholarships to 21 students from universities and colleges in theMekong Delta region.
The recipients are from disadvantaged families, ethnic minority groups andthose who perform charity.
Each scholarship is worth 5.3 million VND (about 233 USD), with girlsprioritised.
Dr. Bui Cong Tho, head of Hessen office in Vietnam said the Hessenscholarship fund is the only scholarship that has operated without interruptionin Vietnam for the last 24 years.
Apart from the scholarships, the students also receive certificates, giving thema chance to study at Germany universities with free tuition in the future.
According to Assoc. Prof. and Dr. Do Van Xe, vice rector of Can Tho University,the scholarship fund has enabled many poor students in the region to study in world-classacademic programmes.
The scholarships are part of an educationcooperation programme between the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Trainingand the HSMSA which aims to encourage disadvantaged students and those fromethnic minority groups.
The Vietnam-Germany University project, thefirst of its kind implemented by Vietnam and Hessen state since 2008, isconsidered a significant result of the two countries’ education partnership.-VNA
The Vietnamese Government will spare no effort to work together with the German side to develop the Vietnamese-German University (VGU) into a high quality training institute in Vietnam.
Binh Duong-based VN-Germany University should provide international-standard training for not only local students but also those from other Southeast Asian countries, said President Truong Tan Sang.
Vietnam will work closely with Germany to turn the Vietnam-Germany University (VGU) into a model university, contributing to comprehensively reforming Vietnam’s university education system.
